Research

My research efforts focus on the development of new knowledge to help farmers make informed decisions about alternative products, production technologies and management practices in an ever-changing agricultural sector environment.

In 2001 while working as a consultant for a non -  governmental organization in Colombia, I developed an interest in understanding and disseminating new technologies in order to advance agricultural sustainable development. Since then I have directed my efforts towards the study of sustainable practices in the sense of resources conserving, environmentally non-degrading, technically appropriate, and economically and socially acceptable technologies.

The development of knowledge that responds to particular conditions, needs, and opportunities for different individuals in the agricultural sector (farmers, non-academic stakeholders, consumers, among others) is a consequence of the permanent interaction between the research community, Extension personnel, non- academic stakeholders, and the community in general. I believe that periodic contact with agents involve directly or indirectly with the agricultural sector is the only way to correctly address needs, challenges and opportunities in this sector through applied research.
